Hugh Corbett Returns
In 1300, an English privateer named 'The Wax-Men' was trapped and
overrun by two powerful war cogs flying the streamers of the powerful
Hanseatic League of North Germany. The ship was carrying a casket
containing the 'Carta Mysteriosa', a collection of valuable and detailed
maps and sea charts. The rulers of Europe, not to mention their merchant
princes, would wade through a sea of blood to obtain them. More...

8pm on Channel 5's 'Revealed' series. The programme was based on his
most recent book The Secret Life of Elizabeth I, and saw Paul researching
the evidence around the rumours of Elizabeth I having a child with
The Earl of Leicester, Sir Robert Dudley.
Paul revealed exciting new evidence of this relationship resulting
in the birth of a child, backed up with evidence from archives in
Spain and around the UK.
The Daily Mail featured a double spread about the programme which
you can read here.

will be updating the site in the coming days and weeks. Read
about the book here, check back for more information soon, and
please take your time to view the rest of the site.
Secret Life of Elizabeth I Gets Excellent Reviews!
The UK papers last weekend featured excellent reviews of Paul's first

I.
The Daily Mail featured an excellent review encouraging readers to
watch and The Guardian and The Observer both also featured the documentary
in their 'Watch This' and 'Screengrabs' sections.
Be sure to tune in and watch Paul attempt to uncover the truth about
Elizabeth and her relationship with the Earl of Leicester, this Wednesday

Secret Life of Elizabeth I On Screen June 14
UK fans of Paul Doherty can see The Secret Life of Elizabeth I on
Channel 5, June 14th at 8pm. The programme, part of Channel 5's 'Revealed'
series, is a documentary based around the book concentrating on the
possibility that Elizabeth and her secret lover had a child.
The programme is presented by Paul and has been filmed on location
around the UK and in Spain. Be sure to tune in and enjoy this fascinating
and insightful documentary as it reveals The Secret Life of Elizabeth
I!
Buy The Secret Life of Elizabeth I
The Secret Life of Elizabeth I came out on April 4th in the UK, and
can be bought direct from the publishers website: www.greenex.co.uk.
The novel is really a 'faction'. It gives a fictional interpretation
of original sources but bases that interpretation, as shown in the
commentary after each section, on sound historical evidence.
The story is told by a lady-in-waiting whose identity is never really
revealed. This close, intimate friend of the Queen is writing some
years after Elizabeth's death and the accession of James I. Apparently
she has no love of the Scottish king, his ministers or his favourites,
the Howards.

be some more new features on the site in the coming months, please
check back from time to time, and keep the questions coming.
New Books on the way
We are exclusively previewing two new books on paulcdoherty.com,
the first is entitled The Cup of Ghosts and is released
in the UK on the 6th December.
The Cup of Ghosts is the first in a new series, featuring Mathilde
of Westminster and played out against the glorious, violent, and decadent
court of Edward II where ghosts throng, and old sins and innocent
blood cry to heaven for vengeance.
The second book we are featuring here is released in February and
is entitled The Secret Life of Elizabeth I. Paul
has written a presentation about the book that you can read
here.
The Great Crown Jewels Robbery of 1303 available now!
Paul Doherty's latest book is now available to purchase. It was released
on 14th September and is available in the UK from Constable
and Robinson and in the USA from Carroll
and Graf.
Many people know of Colonel Blood's attempt to steal the Crown Jewels
during the reign of Charles II (1660-1685). However, Blood's conspiracy
wasn't the first, and certainly not the most successful.
In 1303, while Edward I of England was north of the Scottish border
trying to crush William Wallace, he'd stashed his treasure safely
in Westminster Abbey—behind iron-bound doors, in a place of
sanctity which housed Christ's body, not to mention pious Benedictine
monks.
Enter Richard Puddlicott, a former merchant who had been arrested
in the Low Countries because of Edward I's debts. This charming dissolute
rogue infiltrated the Abbey's inner circle (entertaining them on the
proceeds of their own silver) and, before long, had helped himself
to a good part of the treasure. The King's fury knew no bounds, but
Puddlicott ran his men a merry dance before eventually being captured
and sent — along with forty monks — to his death in the
Tower.
This compelling work is an exhilarating tale of cunning deceit, lechery,
feisty villains, meddling monks, greedy goldsmiths, and devious pimps
and prostitutes. It takes the lid off both the medieval underworld
and the assumed piousness of the monastic community.
