...bringing history to life.

Merry Christmas                                                                  22 December 2011

Strange isn’t it to be preparing for a happy and holy Christmas and, at the same time, be soul-deep in plotting the most gruesome murders! At the moment, I am editing THE STRAW MEN, the next Athelstan novel. If it’s freezing now wherever you are, the January of 1381 was even more so, yet London had other troubles. “The day of the great slaughter when the strongholds fell” was being plotted: the Peasant’s Revolt when the Earth Worms would rise in rebellion against the Lords of the Soil. Treason and treachery have swept into London and murder, in all its deadly forms, ranks high in their retinue. The Tower of London, the seizure of which was the focus of the rebel’s strategy in the summer of 1381, truly has become the haunt of a red-handed slayer.

To distract myself further, I have also turned to another Canterbury tale. I’ve moved from London to the lonely Norfolk countryside around Castle Rising where a sinister and deadly confrontation is imminent. THE SOUL SHADOWER, I hope, will be a truly chilling ghost story set against a richly vivid medieval back-drop.

Of course, it’s just as well to escape to the searing hot Redlands of ancient Egypt, to wonder lost in some cunningly contrived tomb with is snares and traps, then have to flee, be forced to, by shadows deeper than the rest.....Judge Amerotke is about to return. I look forward to meeting him once again.

In the meantime, thank you for all you very kind support. Settle down before the fire with a good book which tells some terror-borne tale. Just ignore those dark shapes which may flit wither side of you!! A very happy Christmas to each and every one of you.

And my best wishes for 2012.
