16th December 2011
On Thursday 29th December is the Feast of St Thomas of Canterbury.
I will be giving a lecture.
The details are as follows:
The Greatest Sinners make the Greatest Saints. What made Thomas Becket the brilliant,
ambitious,
ruthless Oxford clerk, a King's man, body and soul, in peace and war, transform
into
an archbishop who was prepared to defend his Church with everything he had,
including
his own life, against a Prince who was not only his friend but one who had
promised
him the world? What sins did Becket commit that he felt he had to atone for them
by
crawling through the sewers of a French castle?
The conversion of Thomas Becket will be the theme of a talk by Dr Paul Doherty on St Thomas' feast day, Thursday 29th December, at 8.00 pm in the Becket Centre after the parish Mass at 7.30 pm. Please join our parish celebrations.
Festive refreshments will be provided. Entrance is free though there will be a
collection
for our SVP.

Mathilde of Westminster series optioned by ITV!
Paul is delighted, as you might imagine, to be able to pass on this news release
from the
D H H Literary Agency…
“D H H Literary Agency is pleased to announce that a deal has been signed between Paul Doherty and ITV for all of Paul’s Mathilde of Westminster historical crime novels.
The deal was negotiated for Paul by David Headley of D H H Literary Agency and for ITV by James Peel.”
Paul has already met with the development team and is very excited at the prospect of seeing this wonderful series on screen.
By 1322, Mathilde of Westminster was considered the finest physician in London. But in her years as lady-in-waiting to Princess Isabella, she was drawn into the murky politics of the English court, where sudden, mysterious death was part of the tapestry of life.
Many years later, Mathilde looks back and chronicles her turbulent life. With her
sharp, suspicious intellect ready to distinguish between a fatality and an unnatural
death, Mathilde is confronted by a host of chilling murders. The source of these
horrors is the fierce political rivalry between Philip of France and Edward of England.
This manifests itself in a series of gruesome killings, one of which actually took
place during Edward II’s Coronation, when a knight of the Royal Household, Sir John
Baquelle was crushed to death.
